I've checked my email for the first time in over a fortnight!

I must devote the rest of my time while at the library to my editorial duties. Of course, before I depart, I must remind you of your civic duty. It's time to vote. November 4th. Be there.

For the political junkies, care to place wagers on how the outcome will shake out? Who will take the popular vote, and by how much? Who will capture the electoral college? Which states will surprise us the most by their results?

BTW, I finally saw firsthand a McCain sign in someone's yard. All campaign season I'd seen not a sign, button or bumper sticker for the Republican ticket.

I've seen two McCain signs. Which isn't surprising; South Minneapolis tends to vote a bit left of San Francisco, and recently the second party on the Minneapolis City Council has been Greens rather than Republicans.

But I haven't seen McCain bumperstickers, either. And there are people from the suburbs driving through.

I think/hope/pray that Obama takes both the popular and electoral college votes.

Because the way that Republicans engage in projectile politics, if he won the electoral college but not the popular vote, they'd be screaming about unfair elections.

I've seen a handful of McCain-Palin signs in our neighborhood, mostly in the windows of blue collar Catholic old-timers, as opposed to the grad school educated demographically more diverse newcomers such as myself. Up until 20 years ago people in the neighborhood did not list their homes with realtors; they would inform the monsignor, and he found find them a buyer from within the flock.

I predict Obama-Biden will win big in both the popular vote and the electoral college. To get a 60 seat majority in the Senate we may have to hold our noses and let Lieberman continue to caucus with us.

Since I'm in an urban area of Richmond VA, the majority of stickers/signs that i see are Obama/Biden in my localized area. At the same time I have seen many MCcain/Palin stickers/signs around, yet i have also noted a distinct decrease in the volume of Republican ticket signs on the lawns of people out in the rural areas which were decidedly Repub. in the 04 election and in so many elections before that. There was a moment while driving through those small towns and seeing so many Obama signs (some larger ones in front of small businesses and farms) when i realized that Obama just might actually win Virginia after all.
The conservative base is out in force spewing their fear mongering about the evil socialist monster but Mccain just doesn't appeal to enough moderate voters here. I think that his caustic, cynical way of obsessing on Obama's (perceived) weaknesses (and therefore not focusing so much on his own strengths) is actually helping Obama to win.

I think that Obama should (and will probably) win, but honestly I've become so cynical myself of the entire political system in our nation that I also wouldn't be surprised if the Republicans steal another election.
