The receptionist at my workplace lent me his Smiths CD, because I told him I didn't think I could name a Smiths song off the top of my head. It's pretty neat. Kind of a mix between the Beatles and Pink Floyd.
All very tongue in cheek, deliberate misery. Morrissey, the lead singer, used to appear on Top of the Pops waving a bouquet of lilies while dancing. Innocent times!
Yeah, I got that. :) I like that, though--the lyrics are so hard to reconcile with the gentle music that I had to evaluate each on its own merits. It was cool. I'll have to pick up a Smiths CD sometime.
my first girlfriend got me into them, by tossing a few assorted songs onto a mix tape. Reel around the FOuntain, and Girlfriend in a coma are still my favorites..
