After watching McCain basically refuse to make eye contact with Obama and then last night referring to him contemptuously as "that one", little surprises me.
I was SO GLAD when some of the commentators pointed out that the phrase might be offensive to persons of color. I thought that was going to go right over some peoples' heads. (I was not amused when Chris Matthews sat there chuckling over it, even after such a possible perception was pointed out to him.)
One thing about McCain I noticed last night: he's a lefty. I had no idea.
yeah, it was really annoying me after a while. I also noticed he seemed to want to get really close to the people who had asked questions in the audience. In one case I felt like the person in the front row between him and the question asker must have felt uncomfortable having McCain stand so close without looking at him.then he patted the one guy on the shoulder, which seemed kind of condescending to me, though the guy was smiling...
A lot of RNC folks were really pleased with that moment--they said it showed real connection between McCain and the gentleman. I didn't find it condescending, as they were both part of the Armed Services.
I completely agree with you about the personal space issue, though. I didn't really consider how far he was leaning in to get face time.
My family makes fun of me for "talking to the TV" when I watch politics. Last night, I kept yelling at McCain, "Sit down!" Hopefully, you don't get as stirred up.
Brokaw? Really? I find that interesting. Some folks in another journal (I think the entry is locked) were mentioning how he seemed biased insofar as he would let McCain finish his sentences while interrupting Obama for time.
Yeah, I noticed that and it irked the hell outta me. I kept reading it as "Don't be afraid, I am your friend! I will not hurt you! Why don't you believe me? Come back!"

I was loving Mr. Brokaw last night, though.
