The cellphone-texting scandal in the Detroit Mayor's office offers a clue: They were able to get the exact text of the messages in 2007, when the messages were sent in 2003. Texting a message is equivalent to posting it on the evening news, only more permanent.
Of course, so is writing something in LJ. And LJ is being backed up by the new Russian overlords at random sites worldwide....
