Based on reading this post and its comments, I wonder when it is exactly that a white person crosses over from being "clueless" (and therefore should shut up) to being an "ally" (and therefore should go forth and "educate")? Who makes this judgement?

I hesitate to say this. I'm going to use the words that were used in the post.

The person has to "get it". How one "gets it" cannot be told. It is akin to getting a joke; there is an 'aha' moment.
