giving things a bit more pique

During my last revision frenzy, some of my revisions encompassed nothing more than retitling a piece.
Usually, I'm pretty good at picking out apropros or odd/intriguing titles. However, some of my poems continue to labor under such bland names as "Adversity", "Definition", and "Solace".
One of these pieces, "Consolation of a Daughter", recently became "Instant Karma". Not a great improvement in terms of turning into something other than an abstract noun, but it's at least a bit zippier.
My best retitling went into rendering "Observation" (which was a perfectly appropriate name) into "Jellied Cake". Isn't that much more, well, appetizing?

titles
Date: 2008-07-19 05:56 am (UTC)I think if I was feeling like a daughter who could use some consolation, I would be strongly drawn to the original title...and am anyway. Instant Karma is fun....and, I personally would use it for something lighter.
Why? Because parent/child relationships are potent things that most (probably all) of us have some poignant deep feelings about in which it is helpful to have someone else put them to words, to speak our hearts, to bring us solace.
Maybe double title them? One in ( )
Not having read either of these though, I can't really say.
I like fun titles...I also like being able to find something that speaks for me, or with me at times of strong emotion or simply introspection/contemplation.
You do get to define and please yourself.
Honor you.
I only speak here to tell you my point so you can figure where that fits for you in your goals and purpose of your art.
I like "Adversity" "Definition" and "Solace" as names. They too tell me a bit of what I am coming to. Help me choose, draw me in.
So does "Instant Karma" it is just such a different head space to get me there.
There is a place for a variety of title styles, yes?
