Obviously the Torygraph is going to put a conservative spin on this -- as I understand it, the German policy is to encourage children not to reject or judge as "yucky" unfamiliar foods simply because they are different to what they are used to -- and that is, essentially, the root of racism, isn't it? The rejection and demonisation of the Other on no other basis than it is different? Getting children to embrace (or at least communicating them that it is not acceptable to blindly condemn) difference is a very wise and effective anti-racist policy, I should think.

I'll admit it. I do not like kim-chi. In fact, it brings tears to my eyes. I'm a horrible racist.

Or perhaps the Koreans do not like me, who knows?

Either way, I think it's kind of silly.

I hate the words ‘out of context’ in reference to racist terms.
That kinda depends on what the context is. I don't think there's ever a good reason to use one against someone, but I'd really like us to get over this crap about not being able to say a word when talking about it. Much as I dislike Kwame Kilpatrick, I think the criticism he got after the state of the city address was totally off-base.
