I tend to make lists when packing or buying groceries, etc.
I'm also one of those people who learns/remembers by writing things down. For example, if I write down directions on how to get somewhere, I seldom have to consult them.
So lists are mostly the equivalent of a string on my finger, unless I'm particularly distracted.
Hi - I'm Axejudge, and I'm a compulsive list-maker. (hi axejudge)
I use Yahoo calendar to keep track of everything I have scheduled, and everything I'd like to make time for (in the hope that by looking at it I'll actually sit down and do them). Many tasks are listed there - planning for the future.
Grocery list - goes without saying. I plan a week's menu ahead of time.
List of favorite songs (still in process).
List of home improvement projects.
List of wines I want to try making.
etc. etc. etc. Any time is a good time for a list.
I make lists all the time to combat general disorganization and stress. If I'm worried I'll forget it, I write it down.
Currently, on the days I'm working from home, I make a list of things to get done for each day. It's dual: one part is for house chores or non-work errands. The other is work issues that need resolving that day.
I sometimes make them up a week in advance based on what I think I'll need to get done that day.
Oh jebuz, do I ever. My boyfriend knows that if I make more than 3 lists in a day, I'm truly stressed. In college, I would list all the work I had to do (with estimates of how long it would take), then all the timeslots in which to do it, and then match the two up. When packing for Burningman I had separate lists of what to pack, and which bag to pack it in, and whether it'd be shipped or come on the plan. Now i'm staring down the barrel of "moving" for the first time ever, and I FFFFear the lists I will be making.
Actually, I've recently implemented some mad listing, and it's been awesome. I've always been a lister, but in times of stress or confusion, much moreso.
