So I arrived home to find out that my mom did not receive her flowers. Of course, I get home after business hours, so there isn't much I could do. I called the flower shop and got their answering service; I left a message. I considered cancelling my order completely, but even to do that, I had to wait until this morning.
I explained to my mom what had happened, and she was touched that I even thought of getting her flowers. I asked her if she would appreciate getting them a day late, and she said sure.
I asked my dad if he might have time this morning to swing by the flower shop to pick up the bouquet, just to make sure that they actually got to the house. He said he didn't really have time. So I'd just about resolved to cancel my order.
Just five minutes ago, the shop called my workplace and said that they had tried to deliver, but my mom wasn't home. They said they left a tag on the door (I didn't see a tag, and my mom seemed genuinely surprised to find out I'd ordered flowers, so I'm gathering she didn't see one, either). Anyway, they said that they'd be happy to redeliver. They called my mom and confirmed that she'd be home all day, so they said they'd be able to deliver by mid-afternoon.
So, all's well that ends well. That's cool. Even if it's a day late, I know my mom will enjoy the flowers. I don't know if I'll do this again next year, though.
