Oh, and this "we won't press for a cease-fire unless it's permanent" or "sustainable" stuff is insane. Secretary Rice is being disingenuous. A cease-fire is by definition temporary. It's a period where two or more sides work out their differences while withholding hostilities. To claim that the cease-fire must be a permanent peace is ridiculous, terribly unrealistic. In the meantime, hundreds of civilians are killed, maimed, and otherwise traumatized.
Somehow, the Bush Administration's reaction to Israel's actions against Lebanon seem analogous to its reaction to Katrina. The wait-and-see approach. It's really not as bad as it looks or what people are saying.
