Just as I was gearing up for a walk, it started raining. Of course.

Michigan has had a--dare I say it yet?--mild summer. Some hot days, yes; some very humid days, yes; but nothing like what California has been through.

Michiganians: Who else remembers the heat wave of 1988?

I lived in Michigan in 1988... I was 11 years old then... but I just don't remember it. My memory is shot these days... :-)

I do remember going to back to visit around 1995 or 1996 and thinking it was odd that everyone seemed so uncomfortable when the temps were only in the mid 80's.t

The summer of 1988 is kind of a blur. I know I spent a lot of it making out with the kid I would marry 6 years later, but I don't remember it being terribly hot.

We managed to go for a walk before the rain you got made it's way to this side of town, but there was a bit of lightning on the way home.

I was 10, and I spent my summers playing with my cousins on the lake in Portage. So, while I'm sure it was hot, it was cooler there than elsewhere.

I was seven, but I remember! The neighbors had swimming pools in either direction. We swam a lot.

I'm glad someone remembers! I realize eighteen years is a bit far back to go in the memory banks, but it really was news back then. (I don't think a two-week streak of high-90 temps would faze us much anymore.)

I seem to recall late May of that year was in the high 90's.

I was working in a factory, next to an oven. A couple of my co-workers and I had a walk out one day, felt like we were melting. Only the guy who couldn't show up five days a week got fired for it.

Ugh. It's tough enough working in a hot factory in the first place, especially in the summer. (I think I've told you about the two days I worked in the scratch-off lottery ticket factory. That was during the summer, but it was the midnight shift. Still it was stifling hot in there.) I don't blame you for walking out.
