Study: Telephone Poll Participation Down

More Americans are refusing to participate in telephone polls these days, but carefully conducted surveys still can get accurate samples of public opinion — according to a new poll.

Wow. This doesn't happen everyday.

New Mineral Found on the Moon

The new mineral is named hapkeite, after Bruce Hapke, an emeritus professor of geology and planetary sciences at Cornell University in New York, who predicted its discovery.

Airless bodies such as the moon, Mercury, and asteroids have an inorganic soil made of crushed rocks called regolith.

In theory, it is formed by the impact of micrometeorites traveling at high speed. The heat from their impact melts and vaporizes metals, which are then redeposited on rock fragments as tiny, scattered beads in a glassy coating.

Hapkeite is made when iron and silicon are deposited with two parts iron and one part silicon, Mahesh Anand of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and colleagues reported.

Student fights to campaign in election as 'queer guy'

An openly gay student is fighting to campaign in his high school election with posters that read: "Gay Guys Know Everything!" and "Queer Guy for Hunt High."

Seventeen-year-old Jarred Gamwell has enlisted the help of the American Civil Liberties Union to reverse a principal's decision last week that stripped the posters from the halls of James B. Hunt Jr. High School in Wilson, North Carolina.

Today, the first thing he did was ask me my name.

Unfortunately, he was late getting to the bus stop; I was already in line to board while he was crossing the street. I sat in an inside seat, but he still sat a seat ahead/adjacent to me. So, we still need to cross that hurdle.
