High Caused by Exercise May Be Related to Cannabis

The same family of chemicals that produces a buzz in marijuana smokers may be responsible for "runner's high", the euphoric feeling that some people get when they exercise, US researchers say.

High levels of anandamide were found in young men who ran or cycled at a moderate rate for about an hour, the study by the Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of California, Irvine, found.

Anandamide is a cannabinoid, or lipid molecule, that is naturally produced in the body. It is known to produce sensations that are similar to those of THC, the psychoactive property in marijuana.

The study's findings, published in the journal NeuroReport, challenges the belief that the release of brain chemicals called endorphins causes the peculiar high that some runners and cyclists claim to feel.

Arne Dietrich, the study's principal investigator, believes the body releases cannabinoids to help it cope with the prolonged stress and pain of moderate or intense exercise.

So last week I noticed that I had a hangnail. It was just a small one, though, so I didn't pay it much mind. Then I got home from work Friday evening and took off my coat.

Yep, you guess it. Ripped right off. Blood and everything.

This wouldn't be so bad if it weren't an occupational hazard (I being a typist by trade). It doesn't hurt so much now, though, which is nice. And I've learned how to type on the pad of my finger instead of the point.

Treasury Seeks Probe Into Papers Taken by O'Neill

The U.S. Treasury has asked the U.S. inspector general's office to investigate how a possibly classified document appeared on Sunday in a televised interview of ex-Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill, a department spokesman said on Monday.

"It's based on the (CBS program) '60 Minutes' segment, and I'll be even more clear -- the document as shown on '60 Minutes' that said 'secret,"' Treasury spokesman Rob Nichols told reporters at a weekly briefing.

So they're not denying that the document exists, or was dated the date it was (January 2001). They're not actually addressing the real import of the document; they're persecuting the person who brought it to light.

The White House was reluctant to investigate the leak of an undercover FBI agent, but they're gung ho about pursuing this "leak".

O'Neill is almost certainly guilty of violating laws regarding presidential memos and so forth. But at the same time, I admire the fact that he still came forward and is willing to take whatever punishment this administration seems bent on giving.

I saw the 60 Minutes segment. It was pretty damning.

"If you make a raised water tile on the ground, drop a person in it, then remove the water tile, they will appear to drown in the ground. It is funny."
