This article in the NYTimes as to whether the universe is soccer-ball shaped describes the Big Bang as "the event in which space and time emerged".
Now that is a cool way of imagining the initial event of existence.
(By the way, I do subscribe to the idea that the universe resembles "a torus, or a bagel shape, which is what you get when you wrap the left and right and top and bottom sides of the screen around so that they meet." Except the center, the hole, is really a point that blinks in and out of existence.)
