baptismal waters wending deep
within the soul's lonely corridors,
singing of silence, and the deep:
I commit myself to You,
every part of You: I commit myself
to the invisible nourishment of air,
the phantom that sustains;
to the eternal movement of water,
that ancient font, that unfathomable sea;
I commit myself to earth,
the stone, the clay, the boundless plain;
to the mystery of fire,
what irradiating joy, such
abstract desire, the
primordial chaotic agent:
that which consumes
but does not consume itself.
I commit myself to spirit,
panoply of imagination,
that which dances with itself,
spriteful, the most resounding Echo,
redoubling and recombining
until Life's laughter overflows.
Sweet marriage of water and earth
nourished by fire and air,
El Elohe Israel
Mother, receive me into Your care.
