I'm annoyed at whoever wrote the headline, "Elite Colleges Reporting Record Lows in Admission." The implication is that they are not admitting as many people as they used to. The reality is that the class size is the same as ever, but the number of students applying for those positions has risen dramatically, such that the admissions rate (Number of admissions divided by number of applicants) is at a record low. There aren't fewer slots: There are more applicants. The headline should be: "Elite schools reporting record number of applicants."

I want to know: Who's paying their tuition?
