Tonight I splurged and rented:

Bowling for Columbine
Far From Heaven
and Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.

Which should I watch first?

I haven't seen Far From Heaven, but I'd definitely recommend Two Towers. Rousing mind-candy of the highest calibre. Bowling For Columbine, while it has it's moments (Michael opening up a bank account solely to get one of the free promotional guns they're offering, and his ultimate show-down with God-cum-NRA President Charlton Heston) kind of drags a bit here and there. Not quite on the same level as his Roger and Me - but still a good movie. Two Towers kicks mega-ass though.

instead, watch 'the two towers' three times and forget the other two.

i would say that about bowling for columbine.. i saw it three times in the theater.
but i like two towers as well, so three times for columbine, then two towers.
or alternatively: columbine, two towers, columbine, far from heaven, columbine.

hm....maybe three times each isnt enough though? you only have two eyes. three times isnt enough to appreciate all the visual mastery in two towers...its a smorgasborg of effects!! i'd say 4 times min, and then watch minority report afterwords.

<size=-1>i know it's not on the list, but its still a great movie.

it better. minority report is what people will be calling 'the one stephen spielberg got right'. his penchant for big movies finally paid off with this one. you never feel like you're watching a 3 hour movie, for the simple reason that you're interested for all three hours. and it looks beautiful, the way they shot it. plus, (and i promise i'll stop the raves after this last one) tom cruise has only been getting better since magnolia, and i think minority report will be one of his career signatures.

Contrary to what the others have said I was deeply impressed by Bowling for Columbine although I felt it was a bit over the top it was great entertainment. I was not that impressed by Two Towers which I felt had too many cheesy one liners and was not a suitable adaptation of the far superior novel. And for the record I thought Fellowship of the Ring deserved to win for best picture over Beautiful Mind and was a very good adaptation of the novel. I have not seen Far From Heaven. So I suggest you save Bowling for last since it most likely is the best film and will leave you motivated to do more.
