Bram Stoker's Dracula. It's the only one I've ever actually gone out at bought. I do admit there are movies that have soundtracks exceptionally well-suited and -selected for their storylines, but that's the only one I've ever liked enough to buy on its own, sans movie.

I agree - it's got all the mood and intensity one could want. Though the Annie Lennox ballad at the end makes me rush the cd player to TURN IT OFF!

A good soundtrack from a terrible movie is Van Helsing.

Another sleeper is Conan the Barbarian - Basil Poulidouris. Some wonderfully sweeping music and one track with 2 parts composed by he and his wife.

Another good couple: Snatch and Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels.

RHPS.

Prince of Egypt, although the professional artists they had on the CD do not sound as good as the actors in the movie singing the same stuff.

The Haunting. The 1999 version.

Pi.

13th warrior.

Pump Up the Volume.

Monty Python's Meaning of Life.

Fifth Element. Possibly my favourite rendition of the mad scene from Lucia di Lammermoor.

Amadeus. It's Mozart. And Tom Hulce laughing.

House. Technically not a movie, but the music is ace. So is the music for Queer as Folk.

Les Choristes. French boychoir music. Heavenly!

Batman (the Danny Elfman score from the Tim Burton version)
Edward Scissorhands
Beetlejuice

Judgement Night (never actually seen the movie, but the soundtrack is all collaborations of a rap group and a metal group)

The Two Towers (especially the Hardinger Fiddle Rohan theme)

Harry Potter
Star Wars

I bought the soundtrack to Hamlet (2000) without seeing the movie. I was at Borders with [livejournal.com profile] rikhei after seeing Final Fantasy, and I was just browsing titles.

The Hours is my favorite soundtrack in my collection. In fact, I think I'll put it in now.

Which version? First movie, or the 2000's remake? I enjoy the newer one for its fresh take on some rock'n'roll classics (I love Tango de Roxanne), but none of them surpass the original songs. Then again, Ewan McGregor only sings in 1 or 2 keys, so that hampers things a bit. (Though I was surprised at how good Nicole Kidman's voice is!)
