I was thinking, after listening to a newscaster implore residents not to shoot guns as is a tradition amongst some: why not encourage people to shoot off fireworks instead? Why is it that we can only enjoy fireworks during July? Wouldn't it be safer to do it during this time of year, when it isn't so dry? And it satisfies the urge to explode things into the air.

Just a thought.

That's how folks in my hometown celebrate.

I had a friend who used to have to medicate his Rotty 2x/yr, at 4th of July and NYE, b/c the fireworks scared her.

November seems to work pretty well back where I'm from, so I suspect you're right.

There's no rule against fireworks, though it can be harder to light them out of doors when it's cold, especially if it's windy.

I've certainly been known to light firecrackers on New Years and I've heard other people do it too.

Well, there is the Michigan rule against fireworks that leave the ground, so the "explode things into the air" part may be a problem. But other than that, fireworks should work just fine for most holidays, especially Halloween as an alternative to Devil's Night.

Might be hard to get them lit around here tonight. Snows coming in.

In south Texas, that's exactly what we do. All the fireworks stands have been back up and operational for weeks now. Come to think of it, I should pick up sparklers for the party tonight...

We used to make a racket beating on pots & pans and shouting, "Happy New Year" out the front door at midnight NYE.
