My dad is watching Duck Soup. I haven't seen that movie since 1998, when I took Intro to Film.

Have you seen it? If you have, in your opinion, how does it compare to other films of the '30s?

In my opinion it's one of the ten best films of the '30's. Heck, probably one of the five best alongside Gone With The Wind, Wizard of Oz, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington and Bringing Up Baby.

It's sad that I have seen naught but one other that you mention (Wizard of Oz). Believe me, the others are on The List.

What about It Happened One Night? Modern Times? (I'd mention Rebecca and Citizen Kane, but they're just outside of the time frame.)

It Happened One Night is a great, but it's been almost twenty years since I've seen it, so it's not really fresh in my mind.

I actually have never seen Modern Times. I've never been much of a Chaplin fan. Well, not until I started dancing--now I find his movements on screen fascinating.

I think you'd really like Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.

I've been meaning to see Mr. Smith Goes to Washington for quite some time.

I think you'd enjoy Modern Times. The commentary is still relevant, seventy years on.
