How much is produce where you are?

I went to buy an apple today, and my eyes bugged out at the price for a pound: $2.29.

My son has a friend with trees in his yard. They're free over there.

I will have to go do a survey, but I know that the price varies widely between the farmer's market, Busch's, Country Market and Meijer's, which are my four main sources for food. If you add in Arbor Farms or Whole Foods, the price gets higher still

They also vary widely on where they're from. The farmer's market is mostly local, but the others have apples from all over. Come on! We're in Michigan! What are we doing importing apples?

I was just at Arbor Farms tonight... $1.99/lb. for organic apples.

Whereas I paid $2.49 for a half-peck of apples (Mix & Match varieties) at Meijer, and they were quite tasty! :)

I paid $3.75 for a bag of them at a roadside stand this weekend. I don't know what they're priced at at the store right now.

apple picking here is $2.50 a lb. apples in the store are currently on sale, a 5 lb bag is $6. too bad i hate apples and i want expensive strawberries and plums

That sounds typical now for the Fujis and Granny Smiths I usually eat. They vary widely through the year, though, and that's the high end.
