The Wiki article on James Watson has been currently disabled. This I find amusing.

Scroll down to see more of his disturbing remarks. The statement he made about women and beauty made me jump physically.

What the fuckity fuck? I mean, what the *fuck*? Thanks for sharing the info, though...

I hate it when ostensibly smart people are so fucking *stupid*. Grr.

I feel sorry for him. He's an old man, and his rambling comments are being written down and published. It's not like he's thoughtfully considering what he's saying, he's just rambling on. I would like to hear what he would say in a carefully prepared speech, as opposed to what he thinks about while at cocktail parties. The quotes appear to be from verbal conversations, not published works.

If we kicked out every scientist who was a personal bigot, we wouldn't have any left. They all think that they're smarter than most people. Most of them regard their office staff as inferior, let alone the rest of the unwashed masses.

You are being an apologetic for the racist and sexist. You realize this, yes?

And you're not race-aware? You're one of the most ethnicist people I know. How do you feel about, say, Republicans? How about Muslims, or Scientologists? Would you invite them over for dinner?

Fear of people unlike ourselves is widespread. It has taken years of dedicated education to even put a dent in the theory that "We" are better than "Them" - and a guy who is eighty years old and raised in the boarding schools of pre-war England never got that education. I say, cut him some slack.

Sure. They're people, first and foremost. We're all people.

Furthermore, I, as a social scientist, cannot examine the concept of race without drawing attention to it, without highlighting that the construction exists.

There is a difference between being "racial" and being racist.
