This is an interesting exchange, isn't it? Reading the actual transcripts, on all sides of the argument, comes across as a lot less damning and controversial than the articles make them out to be.

O'Reilly comes across as 'racially ignorant' alright. ("OMG! Teh blacks are civilized! Who knew?") And the responses from CNN are pretty much pointing out just how dumb that sounds.

Yet, at the same time, O'Reilly sounds like he's trying to make a real point (if in a particularly ham-fisted fashion). And it seems like the most direct responses are over how dumb he sounds instead of accusing him of racism.
