Police mull hate crime charges for W.Va. attack: Suspects allegedly use racial slur, torture woman for a week

Authorities said Tuesday they are considering hate crime charges in the case of a woman who was tortured while being held captive for at least a week, and they are investigating the possibility that she was lured by a man she met on the Internet.

The victim was repeatedly called a racial slur while her captors sexually abused, beat and stabbed her, her mother said.

Six people, all white, including a mother and son and a mother and daughter, were arrested in connection with the alleged abduction of the 20-year-old black woman.

Animals like that make me forget my principled opposition to the death penalty. The news these days keeps making me more and more concerned that racial equality in America is seriously headed backward. That's what two terms of far right wing Republican administration will get you. The same right wingers who preach against hate crime laws. Hey, if the sheet fits...

We're all animals. And I remain opposed to the death penalty.

That was an emotional outburst in the heat of the moment. Realistically, I'm still "dead set" (heh) against capital punishment.

I agree, I also feel that our current administration fosters this behavior by turning the other cheek and ignoring stuff like this. We have been heading backwards, ever since 9/11 and the revoking of our civil rights.

Right wingers are the biggest hypocrites. They reach out to minorities, making promises they never keep, all the while telling their white majority not to fear "x", they'll keep "x" in their place.
