i particularly love the northeast woodlands. a few years ago, i took a cross-country roadtrip and was surprised to find that, compared to much of the rest of the country (including the northwest), the northeast was incredibly lush and green and full of varied trees and wet.
I'm biased, as I grew up in the Midwest. Ostensibly, I got the best of both worlds, getting a Midwest temperament but living in the Eastern time zone (and thus influenced by East Coast media).
Of the places I've lived, I think my heart is still in Iowa (Iowa City, to be exact). It's Ann Arbor on a small scale. Very quiet, very progressive city. It actually does still feel like a town, whereas Ann Arbor feels very much like a city.
Of the places I've visited, I think Austin is very cool. Unfortunately, it's surrounded by the rest of Texas, and I don't think I could handle that for an extended amount of time.
I have yet to make it to the West Coast. I hope to soon (that is, within the next decade).
i enjoy where i am now, the mid atlantic, a lot. tons of history, beach and mountains, big cities and small towns. second would be upstate NY. ive fallen in love with that area now!
