Even if he was drinking proper American beers, its not like American beer is famous for its potency. And in Germany, they allow 16 year olds into bars and drink beers and wines (we also saw 15 y.o. allowed in the bar, but not served alcohol)

he's drinking a NA beer, and AA is wrong, drinking NA beers helps an alcoholic quit, AA just likes making lots of rules for u to follow, even if they don't help.

I've known several alcoholics who have consumed near beer and sparkling grape juice, didn't send them off the wagon.

I've suspected he's been drinking for ages, but it looks like he's being good in Germany.
