This is how our tax dollars are being wasted. I have an idea for a tax cut: CUT THE FAT! This kind of bullshit is a waste of cash that could be spent, oh, I dunno, feeding the homeless and upgrading public services?
Agreed. A complete waste of local and federal resources. Threat assessment seems to have taken a huge nosedive along with the overall IQ of our elected officials.
This is part of the same trend that spawned the same craziness in Boston over the electronic cartoon characters.

there might be a little back story to this -- check out the "NYPD rant" msg board. it's basically the NYPD underground, and they're really fond of trying to out CCRBers for their myspace/facebook pages. (they had some success about a year ago when some new investigator/moron posted racial slurs when describing a traffic incident he was in -- CCRB fired him lickety-split.)
they recently found CCRB Underground and made a big stink about it. they tried to get it in the NY papers, but instead the papers ended up running a story about ridiculous NYPD cop myspace pages. i would bet that the ranters filed the complaint with JTTF.
btw, the CCRB Underground ppl are some real choice specimens themselves. no pride, i tell you.
All sorts of fucked up, indeed. Especially since they should've been able to tell from a quick glance at the user's myspace page that there was no real threat from that direction.
Probably, somebody said, "It's a long shot, but I'd rather be safe than sorry." And sent along some friendly agents to confirm what they already suspected: Mostly Harmless™.
As for me, I'd be very surprised if the FBI didn't have a file on me. As a green-card holder with strong Socialist leanings in certain areas, I'm a prime target for "hands-off observation". Plus, I worked in a women's shelter for several years. I support abortion rights. I think the Repugs hijacked the last 2 elections. Weird whacko liberal-fringe ideas like that. ( Cain't be havin' nunn o' that 'round heah! ;-) )

Nevertheless, certainly another puzzle-piece fitting into a very disturbing trend... *sigh*
