How can LJ not see how ugly the site is?

I want the other font settings back. And I don't want italics converted into bold. I really don't.

Edit: Okay, maybe I'm having problems with things other than LJ. Like, down arrows on buttons are showing up as 6s. I don't know what the hell is going on.

Yeah, I was going to say, at least with my layout, I'm not seeing anything different.

This is one of the classic signs of your computer running way, way, way low on memory. (The problem is that screen redraws are substituting characters for graphics, because they can't make room for the bitmaps.) A reboot should restore things, at least temporarily, but you should consider grabbing some RAM next time you can afford it.

If it persists after reboot, call your favortie tech geek stat.

Thanks. I ran my anti-spyware program and closed some apps that come up automatically on startup. Things seem to be back to normal.

Oh, I spoke too soon.

I can't even have more than one Explorer window open.

I don't understand, because the computer was working fine when I went to bed.

Something's doing major memory-sucking.

Did IE update in the past 24 hours? (Assuming you're using IE.)

Not that I know of.

How can I find out what is taking up so much memory?

(The computer has been running a bit slow over the last few days, but I've never seen it act like this.)

ctrl+alt+delete, check the processes tab. The columns are sortable, so clikcing on "mem usage" either once or twice will tell you pretty much immediately.

I've been getting updates galore from MS, but I'm assuming that's because of all the crap I'm doing (which has me looking sideways at that Ubuntu disc more and more often).

My machine isn't as nifty as yours. When I press ctrl+alt+del, I get a box that says Close Program.

Are you still using Windows 98?

Hah. Yes. (It's what came with the computer.)

In that case, it'll be extremely hard to figure out. I'll dig around and see if I can find a comparable tool for 98.

Don't worry about it. My dad did something to it (I asked him to describe it to me, and he didn't do a great job) and now it's working.

Thanks for your concern, though. Truly.
