My instinct would be to say that I wouldn't vote for a Mormon, but then I remember that Bill Clinton is Southern Baptist and Dubya is Methodist (which I grew up as, and is generally fairly mellow). And Nixon was supposedly Quaker.

I wouldn't, however, vote for Mitt Romney.

I would look very closely at a Mormon candidate, I think. But, yeah, I wouldn't vote for Romney, either, not because of his faith, but because of his platform.

What I found most interesting is that stuffy old America is now more fearful of atheists than of homosexuals. I can't tell; is this progress?

Atheists have always been villified in American politics.

As far as homosexuality goes, I recently learned via the History Channel that James Buchanan, known as the "bachelor president," was probably gay.
