Society is a force of nature- aggressive, protecting, terror-responding. It is nature aggressing on itself, protecting itself from itself, and responding to being afraid of itself.
I don't see society as "nature protecting itself from itself". Quite the opposite, really. Society is human nature trying to protect itself from the terror that stems from nature (e.g., predators, disease, the elements).

Oh, I misunderstood you; I thought you meant society is the effort to enslave and conquer HUMAN nature. That is how I see society- trying to enslave and conquer primitive human nature, such as lust and aggression. It does this through rules and standards that rely on suppression and judgment. That is what I meant by nature (human nature) protecting itself from itself. Society is built on humans trying to protect themselves (and each other) from these more primal aspects of human nature.
