Oh, yeah. My parents explained that whole thing to me. Supposedly it's an upside down cross with the arms broken. They also think that if you use "Xmas" instead of "Christmas" that you're crossing out Christ.
I think they're just missing a few (or many) screws so I don't exactly listen to them most of the time.
