College degree worth extra $23,000/year

I really would like to see that broken down by race and gender. And I'd like the results contrasted against the median for each.

'Cause God knows I'd like that $23,000 "extra."

Black women still make beans. No matter what.

Oh, and the first thing that comes up when you Google college educated black women?

I'm a white male, and I could use that $23,000 myself. I make 2/3 the state average for my job title, college degree or no.

Well, add age to those breakdowns. Just 'cause you're college educated doesn't mean the financial benefits show up right away.

I *will* say that I'm now *finally* making more than 2x what I made as a temp fresh out of college... but it's still <$40k/yr.

Incidentally, I wouldn't be surprised if disability also has a significant effect, even for college-educated folks.

Yeah, I'd be curious about further data analysis. What's the mode, for instance?

College graduates made an average of $51,554 in 2004, the most recent figures available, compared with $28,645 for adults with a high school diploma.

Hmm, it doesn't say what kind of an average this is, whether it is a median (which would be more meaningful) or a mean. A mean could be more easily skewed by outlying anomalies (like Bill Gates).
