TN-Sen: Heartbreaking -- a DailyKos diary

Edit: TN-Sen: Republican Ad Uses "Jungle Drum" Sounds For Mentions of Black Senate Candidate -- another DailyKos diary

In the wake of Katrina, with the immigration "debates" earlier this year, this type of thing doesn't surprise me.

Yet, at the end of the day, what divides us is class, not race.

Edit: This is not to say that I disavow the interconnection of class and race as has been evidenced by this country's history.

Only as a social construction. Class cuts across racial lines. As long as Americans wallow in race consciousness, we will never get to considering class consciousness.

Well, race *is* a social construction, so saying race only divides us as a social construction is a bit redundant.

And since class in America is partly (though certainly not totally) denoted by race, neither should be de-emphasised.

Which is why I am voting Yes on Prop 2.
