Which, to be honest, I just don't understand as a tactic. Proving that you CAN do something that everyone wants, but that you'll only do it when you personally stand to gain, is hardly a way to gain votes! If I had Republican leanings this particular tactic would make me reconsider them rather than strengthen them!
If ppl notice that it's a strategy - then I agree that it might not be very effective - but I imagine that most ppl don't notice. I imagine that they think "boy gas prices have been high - it's a good thing they are coming down." and when it's time to vote they think about their life and how things are going ok b/c they have a little more cash in their pockets than they used to - and consider revoting for the person/party "who is taking care of them."
Maybe I'm underestimating the intelligence of the American voter... but I can't understand how Bush got elected the first time (as opposed to the time he got appointed - when he was a somewhat unknown evil).
Gas had dropped to $2.40 a gallon in Ohio(about 40-50 cents) when I left at the end of August. Now I'm in California which apparently is a European country and gas is around $3.10
