There's no such thing as bad publicity. I bet he got a fair amount of backing from Repubs (disgusting though that may be) and those who were really truly disgusted with his behavior were Dems who already weren't voting. Sigh. Yet another reason why politics could probably cause me to stroke out at age 25 if I let it.

Why this is indeed bad publicity: 1) At least some of the people who approved the initial incident are going to think less of him for backing down. 2) Public knowledge of one's incompetence is bad publicity. He's handled this whole thing incompetently.
