New federal guidelines ask all females capable of conceiving a baby to treat themselves -- and to be treated by the health care system -- as pre-pregnant, regardless of whether they plan to get pregnant anytime soon.
lady_babalon had something to say about this, as did

Date: 2006-05-17 01:40 pm (UTC)I agree that the implications of such a policy are demeaning... but I have to give them the benefit of the doubt on this one.
I don't think the doctors who came up with this policy were intentionally trying to characterize all women as baby machines... I think this was simply a poorly thought out - but innocent - attempt to reduce birth defects.
