But never knew a lot of these details. Thank you!

By my friends' accounts, it is a very powerful experience. Perhaps more powerful than most of us will experience in this lifetime. Hopefully we in the US can respect this power rather than try to legislate it all to hell. Our track record ain't so great. But we can do it better this time. Respect.

I just found out about Santo Daime several months ago, and have been drawn to them because their religious philosophy so closely parallels my own.

I'd love to hear second-hand accounts of your friends' experiences. I'm entirely too curious. :) At the least, I'd be quite interested to know how their stories have influenced your outlook on life.

Well, one thing I discovered is that descriptions of the experiences in words are not only inadequate but actually embarrassing to listen to. It's because the experience was one of the more meaningful in their entire life.
And when they start telling it to you, it's like

"and then I was floating in the astral plane and mother mary was holding me in the palm of her hand and I felt more loved than I ever have in my entire life and then there were these strands, different colors of threads and I was moving with them through a dark tunnel..."

it just gets crazier from there, and their attempt to describe it in words makes it sound like someone trying to describe an acid trip and failing. That is, words are so inadequate that it becomes a mockery of the actual experience. Some things are best kept private. You know?

So yes, you are too curious. :-)
