in france, there's a new labor law that is not good to young people. here, we've just got a government that tortures detainees, stole elections, started an illegal war, and is openly violating anti-spying laws, etc. etc. etc.

i mean, C'MON, if we start protesting here, how are we supposed to catch all the episodes of american idol? it's not like everyone has a tivo!

Well, it IS a lot easier to get a "nationwide" protest when the nation in question is about 2.2 times the size of Michigan. This country is freakin' HUGE, but the population density for most of it isn't very high, so it's hard to get enough of the interested parties in the same place at the same time. It's not just a matter of hopping on a bus for a few hours!

That said, there are bigger protests over the immigration reform than the spying and torture, so we do have some screwed up priorities!
