Call me old-fashioned or a prude, but I don't necessarily think Grease is appropriate for high-schoolers to do in high school, either. As a community theater production, sure.

So Grease and The Crucible are out, but a play about a 15 year-old boy, who's already had quite a few girlfriends, having sex with a 13 year-old girl, conspiring with her to leave her family and the two ultimately killing themselves fits the bill? Incredible. The superintendent must have read the Bowdlerized version which omits all the nurse's bawdy dialogue.

I remember in high school we put on this (awful, really) play called "Bloodlines, or Hanged in Your Own Family Tree" of which the premise was that a brother and sister were in love with each other. Of course, it was a silly farce of a musical and it turned out that there had been two switches at birth so that the brother & sister were not really brother & sister at all, yada yada yada. Still, I have a hard time believing that play would be performed today, particularly in Fulton.

And just so I'm clear, I grew up in a county of about 10K people, also conservative, at the buckle of the bible belt. The difference? Then the community didn't give two shits about high school drama--maybe we were better off then.
