I keep writing all these half-poems! It's irritating.

Maybe I should just accept that I have a natural cut-off point of 12-14 lines.

Edit: I think the two poems I wrote yesterday really are part of the same piece. The themes are the same. The voice is similar. I just need to change the initial point of view. Of course, if I combine them, that means that I still did not write a poem a day. *sigh*

You should get a copy of Wynn Cooper's "Postcards from the Interior," from BOA Editions. Every poem is small enough to fit on a postcard, and damn, they're good stuff.

The only way to really know is to read a lot of poetry. My motto regarding poetry is garbage in, garbage out: the better the poetry you consume, the better you'll produce.

I think a large part of my problem these days is that I've gotten away from reading the works of others.

I think you're being unnecessarily hard on yourself about the one poem a day thing. If you wrote two, and later decided to combine them, i think they should still count toward your quota. You could also shoot for one a day but call it even if you write 7 per week. Even in industry, they look at quotas spread out over quarters, and don't worry too much if you're off for one day or even one week.
