So, I tried safeguarding my computer against the WMF threat (as described in the WMF FAQ), and I get this message:

LoadLibrary ("%windir%\system32\shimgvw.dll") failed. GetLastError returns 0x00000485.

This was in response to trying to run

regsvr32 -u %windir%\system32\shimgvw.dll

Is it too late for my machine?

run this ---> regsvr32 -u shimgvw.dll

Well, according to this site you don't have to unregister the .DLL file anyhow. The patch is sufficient. You DO have to remove the patch once Microsuck makes their own fix, though.
