"Christmas has religious origins," he said. "It's in the Bible."

(The following is part of my ongoing campaign to reclaim Christmas for Pagans)

Yes, Christmas has religious origins, but no it isn't in the bible. The birth of Jesus is in the bible, and I've never heard anyone I respect as an authority claim that Jesus was born December 25. The Pagan God of light was said to be born December 25, which was celebrated as Yule. They decorated evergreen trees, exchanged gifts, sang, celebrated around the fire, and kissed under the mistletoe. None of this is in the bible. I know of no references to Jesus singing, and the only gift I can remember him giving was a wedding present that he made out of water. Talk about a cheap gift.

The only thing even remotely Christian about the holiday is that it has the word Christ in the name. Christ = the anointed one. There's a recipe for the anointing tincture in the old testament. It's cannabis based and rubbed over the entire body. No wonder they were having visions of things. A lot of stuff in the bible makes a lot more sense now. Dude, I've been to parties like that.

So smoke a spliff for Jesus and have a happy Pagan Christmas.

I just did a search with the words: anoint bible cannabis. I found a lot of results about this. There are those who would dispute the claim, but there seems to be some compelling evidence that Jesus was anointed with the oil of ganja. I was wrong about it being a tincture; it was an oil.
