Normal voice range is about 500 Hz to 2 kHz

  • Low frequencies are vowels and bass

  • High frequencies are consonants

Human Hearing and Voice

This interests me from a poetics/linguistics perspective.

it's not quite so straightforward to say low frequencies are vowels and bass and high frequencies are consonants. There's a whole range of frequencies in every sound, and you hear them all. what it's talking about in that is the fundamental, or lowest frequency, which is the one we hear as a pitch or tone. But things like stress and certain voiced consonants can occur higher up in the spectrum than the fundamental.
