I stuck my nose into seven poetry books tonight.
Reading good poetry is rather daunting. It's like a power you can't control.
Peeked into Atlantis, by Mark Doty; Strange Relation, Daniel Hall; Funk Lore, Amiri Baraka; A Wave, John Ashbery; Medicine, Amy Gerstler; and two books by Nikki Giovanni. Everything except the Giovanni was good. Good enough that I had to intentionally set books down because input was getting overloaded.
This was the first time I was exposed to Baraka's work. Damn. I see now why he has the following he does.
