Personally, I kinda agree with the "certain people have no sense of humor" sentiment, but the biggest problem with the joke (for me) is that it claims the Kennedy-Kerry Klan is the modern day KKK when the actual Klan is quite active.

I think politicians on that level are so removed from the realities of suffering and brutality, that KKK and calling people "Nazi's", etc. don't come accross as inappropriate or insensitive. I see it in mainstream society, too, where hate crimes and domestic violence recieve flippant and oversimplified solutions.
