By the way, as this thread in ljdemocrats indicates, Texas two days ago invalidated all marriages, not just same-sex ones. Pesky legal language.

If it hadn't been a legal screwup, it would've been a brilliant piece of legislation, actually.

I have long believed that the best way to handle the whole thing is just to make marriage not a legal contract at all. Let it be a religious/spiritual thing, and leave the law out of it.
