Yesterday, driving home, I heard an anti-drug commercial on the radio. It had something to do with teenagers not listening to their parents. It started out:

"I want to talk to you about drugs. Blah blah blah."

Then more words get through: "Illegal. Dangerous."

Then: "Meth. E. DXM. Even pot...."

It's hit the radio waves. Amazing.

Apparently the greater Detroit area is a hotspot for DXM abuse. I've actually seen quite a bit about it in the press in the last 2-3 years.

I had no idea.

I do remember seeing an expose on it on Channel 7 a couple of years ago.

Why is it that DXM has TOTALLY eclipsed mushrooms and LSD as the "hallucinogen to fear". (The answer to this is certianly "availability" but still... it's like saying "FEAR THE COUGH SYRUP!!!")

Cough syrup is scary. Once, I saw one eat a small child who got too close to it in the supermarket. Even the little cold tablets have been known to attack small pets.

Hence the phrase:
"Can't sleep the cough syrup will eat me. Can't sleep..."

hehe of course this is what happens when I am bored at work with no supervisor. :)

Well, because cough syrup is legal. It's also not as safe as mushrooms or LSD.

It's insane that LSD is Schedule I. It's nonaddictive. The body has to have time in between doses in order for it to be effective.

Besides, DXM isn't really a hallucinogen, though it does cause psychedelic effects.

ew.
I actually correct kids who claim that they are/were "tripping" on cough medicine. Wrong word, guys. you just can't glamorize sucking down an overdose of cherry flavored cough suppressant.
