Last night, I vowed to set aside my pen for 36 hours. I did this because I think I need some downtime from the pressure I've been putting on myself to produce.

... Now, how is it that reverse psychology can work on oneself? Right when I written down my promise to myself, several ideas for poems floated through my head. I've been very tempted to scribble something down.

reverse psychology does work. whenever I get a job, or seriously think about getting a job and giving up this production pressure, the painting suddenly comes to me and I can't leave the house...
I'd say just go with it- no need to bottle it up and lose your ideas.. then don't pressure yourself when you can't think of anything? (ha- easier said than done.)

The problem with the approach you advocate is that no pattern of practice is established. That's what I'm trying to work on now. And I guess, after a long period of writer's block, I'm trying to keep myself to a routine so that I'm writing regularly, now that the tap is again running.

that makes sense- restriction increases discipline, sharpens your mind and your memory. That's what I meant- there are just different means to establishing those patterns. I could learn from that, actually; it's probably one reason why I'm having trouble 'producing.' I wish you well.
