Thanks to all who've participated in my latest poll. It's interesting to see that most of my oldest friends think I'm sane, while my more recent circle of friends think otherwise.

I also find it interesting that more people think I'm impulsive than silly. I've always thought that silliness was my most prominent feature.

I think of "sane" using the kind of definition Philip K. Dick alluded to in VALIS.

I haven't read VALIS. I need to read more P. K. Dick in general.

Yes, you would probably get a lot out of his writings.

It's kind of hard to summarize his idea of sanity. It has more to do with one's willingness to be ethical towards others, than whether or not they buy into corporate reality.

i dont think not being sane is an insult. i think very few of my friends are sane. being sane is being mundane.

I love that episode of The Family Guy! That scene in particular.

Insanity is the only sane solution in an insane world.

Ironically, one of the first lines in VALIS is that sometimes, going insane is the appropriate response to reality.

I would suppose that that's because we live in a culture in which siliness is seen as nonproductive, therefore irrelevant and anti-survival, disregarding the blatantly obvious fact that the people who have brought us all of the technology upon which we rely today, and most of its applications (minus Bill Gates) are/have been people who like to play.

There are times when my intent when I call someone/thing silly is intended as an insult, but usually it's a compliment.

You play well, and I appreciate that.
