I checked out The Lathe of Heaven on DVD from the Ypsilanti Public Library. It's based apparently on Ursula K. Le Guin's "masterpiece".

I watched the sucker two times in a row.
Public television turned out a film this good? Damn. And in 1979. I might have actually seen this as it debuted on TV.

Date: 2003-01-24 06:09 pm (UTC)Still, this was a film put together by the public broadcasting system. It's a made-for-TV movie. I'm sure if someone were to recast the film today with contemporary special effects, it could be quite well done.
The thing I liked most about it were the dream sequences. I felt they were extremely accurate--just the kind of patterns that show up in dreams.
